Former Sydney teacher caught sexting UK students

A former Sydney teacher has been jailed for at least one year after pleading guilty to child abuse offences.

The 31-year-old Queensland man fronted Downing Centre District Court on Thursday and was sentenced to three years imprisonment with a non-parole period of 12 months.

The court heard he engaged in sexualised conversations and sent images and videos to two female students the UK who were both aged under 16 at the time.

Both victims made formal complaints to UK authorities who contacted their Australian counterparts in December 2018.

After the investigation, Australian Federal Police officers searched the man’s then-home in Bella Vista, Sydney, in January last year.

Electronic devices were seized before he was arrested and charged.

He was later released on strict bail and suspended by the NSW Department of Education.

The man pleaded guilty to using a carriage service to transmit indecent communication to person under 16 years of age and using a carriage service to solicit child pornography material.
